Day 3 of the ongoing 2nd Test between India and West Indies went the hosts’ way as they batted for the entire three sessions, and ended with a score of 229/5 at stumps, trailing India by 209 runs. With a huge margin between the two teams still, there might be a possibility that the second Test could end as a draw.
West Indies ended Day 3 with a score of 229/5, holding five wickets in hand but they still have a mountain of 209 runs to climb to cut down India's lead.
West Indies dominated India on Day 3, having resumed play at 86/1 Kirk McKenzie and Kraigg Brathwaite dominated Indian bowlers in the first session.
After a 71-run stand between the two openers, McKenzie and Brathwaite also stitched together a partnership which frustrated Indian bowlers throughout the first session before rain forced an early Lunch on Day 3.
Just before the heavens opened up and rain played spoilsport, Mukesh Kumar picked up his maiden Test wicket, removing McKenzie at 32 to give India a way back in the contest.
Mukesh Kumar struck just before Lunch, he dismissed McKenzie, and the heavens opened up. The rain continued and early Lunch was taken.
Mukesh's first wicket opened the opportunity for India to make a comeback in the game however, the Windies batters continued to frustrate Indian bowlers after Lunch as well.
After Lunch, the Windies again struck a partnership as Kraigg Brathwaite and Jermaine Blackwood joined hands. The pair of them continued to play at a slow pace as the Indian bowlers struggled to find any purchase from the surface whatsoever.
Kraigg Brathwaite played a gritty knock of 75 runs in 235 balls before he was castled by a stunning delivery from Ravichandran Ashwin.
Ashwin struck with a sumptuous delivery to remove Brathwaite removing the Windies captain at a crucial juncture. Alick Athanaze also got a start and joined hands with Blackwood as the hosts continued to frustrate the Indian bowlers.
After Brathwaite's dismissal, Blackwood and Athanaze continued the assault on Indian bowlers with the Windies putting up a total of 174/3 at Tea.
